The SoCal To-Do List: November Adventures

Somehow, November is already here. And while Southern California is still figuring out whether it's ready for sweater weather, our calendars are filling up with reasons to get out of the house.

This month brings a little bit of everything: meaningful tributes to our military and first responders, holiday lights, handmade treasures, and exciting experiences for the entire family.

Whether you're planning a date night, a family outing, or a little weekend adventure, here are five events worth checking out around Southern California this November.

1. Mission Inn Festival of Lights — Riverside

November 21 – January 3, 2026

If there's one holiday tradition that truly captures the magic of the season in the Inland Empire, it's the Mission Inn Festival of Lights.

Each year, the historic Mission Inn Hotel & Spa transforms into a spectacular display of more than 10 million twinkling lights, bringing holiday cheer to downtown Riverside.

The festivities officially begin Saturday, November 21, with the highly anticipated switch-on ceremony at 5 p.m., followed by fireworks. Visitors can also enjoy holiday shopping, seasonal treats, entertainment, and festive photo opportunities throughout the downtown area.

New this year is Candy Land at Albert S. White Park, offering an additional ticketed holiday experience.

Whether you make an evening of it with dinner downtown or simply stroll through the illuminated streets, this is one of those Southern California traditions that never gets old.

Location: Downtown Riverside, surrounding the historic Mission Inn
Admission: Public light displays are free; select experiences require tickets.

2. Murrieta Field of Honor — Murrieta

November 7–15, 2026

Some events are about entertainment. Others leave you with something a little more meaningful.

The 18th annual Murrieta Field of Honor is one of those experiences.

Throughout Veterans Day week, Town Square Park will be transformed into an inspiring display of 2,026 full-sized American flags, each representing an opportunity to honor those who have served, protected, or made a lasting impact on someone's life.

The tribute recognizes military members, veterans, law enforcement officers, firefighters, first responders, and personal heroes.

Visitors can walk among the flags, explore special memorial displays, and take part in scheduled community ceremonies.

Opening ceremonies on November 7 will recognize first responders, while Murrieta's Veterans Day Parade takes place November 11.

It's a wonderful opportunity to teach younger generations about service, sacrifice, and gratitude, or simply spend a quiet moment reflecting on the people who make a difference in our communities.

Location: Town Square Park, Murrieta
Admission: Free and open to the public.

If you're looking for a more creative way to kick off your holiday shopping, Sawdust Winter Fantasy in Laguna Beach might be exactly what you need.

The beloved Sawdust Art Festival grounds are transformed into a festive outdoor village, bringing together talented artists, handcrafted treasures, holiday decorations, and live entertainment.

4. Fleet Week San Diego — San Diego

November 1–15, 2026

San Diego has a long and proud connection to our military, and Fleet Week is an incredible opportunity to celebrate the men and women who serve.

This annual event brings military personnel and the community together through free public activities, concerts, demonstrations, and interactive experiences.

One of the biggest highlights is the chance to tour an actual Navy ship and get a firsthand look at life aboard a military vessel.

Other scheduled activities include Meet the Fleet at Naval Base San Diego on November 7, a Veterans Day boat parade on November 11, and public ship tours at Broadway Pier from November 13–15.

Families can also explore military equipment displays, attend performances, and learn more about the technology and people behind our armed forces.

If you have kids who love ships, military history, or hands-on experiences, this could make for a memorable day trip.

A quick planning tip: Ship tours are first-come, first-served and involve security screening. Check identification requirements, footwear recommendations, and age or accessibility restrictions before heading out.

Location: Various locations throughout San Diego, including Broadway Pier
Admission: Free public activities; some separately organized events may have additional requirements.

5. LA Auto Show — Los Angeles

Whether you're a serious car enthusiast or just someone who appreciates a beautiful set of wheels, the LA Auto Show has something worth seeing.

Held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, this massive annual event brings together hundreds of new vehicles, concept cars, electric vehicles, exotic models, and custom builds.

Visitors can explore the newest automotive technology, see vehicles from manufacturers around the world, and check out The Underground, a showcase of custom cars, lowriders, classics, and other distinctive builds.

There are also scheduled test drives and interactive driving experiences, giving guests opportunities to do more than simply admire the vehicles.

It's a fun outing for families with older kids, car enthusiasts, or anyone who wants a change of pace from the usual holiday activities.

And since the show runs through Thanksgiving weekend, it's an option for entertaining visiting family members, too.

Make some November memories

One of the things we love about Southern California is that there's never a shortage of places to explore, people to celebrate, or new experiences waiting just a short drive away.

November is an especially meaningful time to appreciate our communities. From honoring those who serve to gathering with loved ones and welcoming the holiday season, there's plenty to be grateful for.

So mark your calendar, round up your favorite people, and make time for a little adventure this month.

After all, the best memories aren't always made at home. Sometimes they're made while exploring everything our Southern California neighborhoods have to offer.

Happy exploring!
